Voodoo Ceremonies
- There are public and private Voodoo ceremonies. The public ceremonies are open to the public Voodoo community, while others are conducted by Houngans and Mambos. Houngans are male priests and Mambos are female priests.
- 1st Ceremony-Fete for a Lwa: the ceremony is commenced with the Priye Ginen, Voudouisants come together and call upon and serve the Lwa, drumming and singing is common, most common public ceremony, people sing and dance, the Lwa is invoked to come to the ceremony via possession, when the Lwa comes people are phrophesized, healed, cleansed, blessed, and assisted with solving their issues.
- 2nd- Manje Yanm: commemorates the harvest of yams, the first and best of the yams are harvested and given to the Lwa Ginen before any of it is consumed, ceremony is a two day service, first night-yams are kouched or "put to bed, next morning-yams receive the ceremony of Leve Yam or the Rising of the Yams, lastly, the yams are cooked and prepared to the Sosyete.
Clothing
Ceremonial Clothing:
- White clothing- Dressing in all white is considered sacred to the Voodoo spirits of Dahomean origin.
- Numerous ceremonial dresses, wraps, and costumes are worn during ceremonies.
